Events

Open days and seminars for the public, land managers and river restoration specialists will be held throughout the project, raising awareness of the river system and sharing what we have learned.

The events we will be holding are listed below. Detailed information about each event will be added as it becomes available.

Open days

Open days were held at 7 hatches on the River Wylye, and Blashford lakes on the Docken's water in summer 2008. The open days were for local communities and interest groups, and organised in partnership with the Living River Project.

Restoration techniques seminar

Date
April 2/3 2009
Place
UK River Restoration Centre annual conference, Nottingham, England

As part of the wider RRC conference, a STREAM seminar was held to discuss the initial results of the project.

Date
June 24-25th 2009
Place
STREAM project conference, Salisbury, England

Under the Water Framework and Habitats Directive, an increasing amount of river restoration work is being planned across Europe. The conference will demonstrate practical aspects of how to plan, manage and implement a large programme of river restoration, develop detailed whole-river restoration plans, and integrate management of river and floodplains. For more details and to book, please see the flyer and booking form below.

Workshops

Three workshops for landowners and river managers were held. The workshops gave people a chance to vist and discuss the STREAM river restoration works.

Community events

Local people have joined us on the river bank at numerous events. There was fun for all the family with pond dipping, nature trails and hotly contested Pooh Stick races at Blashford Lakes Nature reserve and Lavington Sports and Social Club. Our guided walk at Amesbury saw a water vole swimming straight across the river to inspect us. The Salisbury Playday saw over 3000 kids of all ages kept entertained by making sea horses, a model river, fly fishing practice and giant river creatures.
