Actions
The natural heritage of the Avon system is threatened by many factors, such as historical engineering work, changes in water level management, pollution from agricultural and other sources, low flows, and abstraction. These impacts are directly or indirectly the result of people's actions and demands on the river system, and securing long-term solutions will require a widespread increase in understanding.
STREAM will demonstrate measures to address the impact of historic engineering and changes in water level management by tackling two key issues: the need for a strategic approach to large scale river restoration, and the need to integrate the management of the river and valley. Over the next four years the following action will be taken:
River restoration
Restoring 7 kilometres of river at six sites spread across the catchment to address habitat degradation due to past engineering.
Linking river and valley
Contributing to integrated management of water levels in the river and valley
Monitoring
Evaluating the physical and biological effect of the restoration work in order to determine if is has been successful
Events
Holding open days and seminars for the public, land managers and river restoration specialist to share what we have learned during the project
